“Evergreen”

STUNNING views! TOTAL privacy!! From $185/night

 Quick nitty gritty:

  •  TOTAL privacy on 17 secluded acres of National Park forest. Neither your in-laws nor the paparazzi will find you here. (Brad Pitt, you can stay for free. Call me.)

  •  STUNNING, breathtaking views that make you slap down your kids’ college savings to buy the property. Or maybe that was just us.

  •  Sleeps 2-4 comfortably, or 5 if y’all really get along and coziness is your thang.

  •  NO TV. You are here to frolic in nature, read books, build fires, do puzzles. You need this. Or load up your iPad and binge away.

  •  NO WIFI. You don’t need to work or stream videos here. You need a break; you deserve it. PS. Cell service is great, so you can still call your mother-in-law.

  •  Just 95 miles from DC. Stop at exit 40 for a Starbucks, switch from Jay Z to John Denver and prepare for the most gorgeous drive ever. (Brad Pitt, I’ll drive you personally.)

  •  Fully DIY refurbished/renovated in 2018 by design visionary going for Ikea Modern meets Redneck Chic. #NAILEDIT

  •  Unpaved gravel roads and steep gravel driveway. But if this pansy city girl and her froufrou sedan can do it…

  •  Just 7 miles to downtown Luray, Luray Caverns, Shenendaoh river, and tons of hiking trails. This is where you want to be, baby.

The full scoop:

Welcome to “Evergreen,” a secluded, rustic mountain cabin on 17 private acres of National Forest. This cabin is totally private with no other homes in sight. You can yodel lustily, bust out your furry costumes, whatevs. What happens at the cabin, stays at the cabin. Sweeping, stunning views will so delight your soul that you won’t need wifi or television. Which is awesome because “Evergreen” has neither. Instead, you’ll cozy in and build fires in our large brick masonry fireplace (firewood included), cook fabulous meals (fully stocked kitchen WITH dishwasher/microwave – rusticity has its limits), and bond over puzzles and board games (we have many). The sporty among you can trailblaze on our own 17 mountain acres or drive a short distance to fabulous hiking trails. Not a hiker? Drive ten minutes to a boat launch to kayak on the river (bring your own kayak; one of us is a lawyer) or bring your bikes for world class cycling (aforementioned lawyer is also a semi-pro cyclist and can recommend cycling routes at all levels). Too much nature? Hit downtown Luray just 10 miles away to enjoy antiquing, coffee, fascinating thrift stores, Flotzie’s ice cream stand (a must do!) and the famous caverns.

An easy 95 mile drive from Washington, DC, “Evergreen” is small and cozy; it’s best suited for a couple or small family. We do not recommend 5 adults at this cabin. And don’t try to sneak more in; you’ll go Lord of the Flies in 24 hours. The cabin features two separate, fully carpeted bedrooms: one with a king bed squeeeezed in there and the other with a bunk bed and a twin, good for up to three kids. One bathroom with tub and shower. Towels and linens are provided cuz we expect that stuff when we travel, don’t you? The property has a charcoal grill plus a wood pellet smoker for you BBQ aficionados, an outdoor firepit, a composite deck for splinter-free feet and a washer/dryer. The last 2 miles of our road is unpaved gravel, nicely maintained by the septuagenarian “mayor” of our mountain and his tractor (thanks, Dave!). Our driveway is also gravel and the last 50 feet is quite steep, hence the stunning view.  We don’t rent “Evergreen” in winter when ice and snow can make the steep driveway impassible. As long as there is no snow/ice, even a Honda Civic can make it up (no disrespect), but just be warned. Two cars max can park on our parking landing.
